I've decided to review Victoria Houston's Loon Lake Fishing Mystery series as a whole. The order of the books is:
Victoria Houston has managed to blend a good amount of humor and mystery together to create an enjoyable series in her Loon Lake Fishing Mystery books. Set in Wisconsin, the books give a convincing glimpse of life in this area. Retired dentist Paul Osborne is an intriguing man, an older widowed gentleman who is discovering life without his overbearing late wife. He loves to fish. Police Chief Lew Ferris is a woman any northwoods man would love. She is a mean fisherman and never hesitates to take a break from even the most intense case to go to the water. She doesn't talk much about herself, the books are told mostly from Paul's perspective, but when she does reveal information it's sincere. The sub characters Houston has created are fabulous. I can picture these people and the situations she mentions in her books. I suppose it's helped I've spent a good amount of time in the area she writes about. Ray Pradt is a hoot and a half and a man I'd love to get to know in real life just to hear the stories he has to tell. The mysteries aren't overwhelming or heavy. The books are fast paced and the blend of humor with the crime solving is right on. An enjoyable series overall and one I look forward to seeing more of. ©Susan Falk and phantomroses.com |
